Caribbean Stars
For Birmingham

At least two of
the Caribbean’s top athletes will be in Birmingham next month for The Muller
Grand Prix 200-m on August 18th.

Bahamian Olympian
and 400-m champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Jamaican double Olympic champion
Elaine Thompson are among the region’s top runners who will take to the start
line at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium next month.

Miller-Uibo, who
beat Dina Asher-Smith and Dafne Schippers in the 200m in Birmingham last year,
has been undefeated across all disciplines since the 2017 Muller Grand Prix. So
far in 2019, the Bahamian has clocked a world 300m best of 34.41, a 200m
season’s best of 22.09 and a world-leading 49.05 for 400m.

Thompson recorded
world-leading times of 10.73 and 22.00 to win the 100m and 200m titles at the
Jamaican Championships last month. She was also victorious at the IAAF Diamond
League meetings in Rome and London.

Jamaican Hurdler
Excels In Finland

World Under-20
silver medalist, Jamaican Britany Anderson, on Wednesday ran the fastest time
ever by a junior athlete at a European Athletics Permit Meet in Motonet,
Finland to win the 100-m hurdles Anderson crossed the line in a personal best
12.71 seconds, erasing the World Under-20 record of 12.74 set by Dior Hall of
the United States at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon in June 2015.

Caribbean Roots Players At Open Day Training Camp

Jamaican-born New
England Patriots Safety Patrick Chung was on the field Thursday at the first
day of training camp as the team kicked off its 2019 pre-season at Gillette Stadium.

Chung took part
in practice but wore a red non-contact jersey. He is still recovering from off-season
shoulder surgery following a Super Bowl injury.

St. Vincent and
the Grenadines player, rookie N’Keal Harry, also took part in the training day
camp. The rookie receiver worked together with Quarterback Tom Brady and Josh
McDaniels while Nick Caserio watched closely.

However, MIA was
Haitian American Sony Michel who is recovering from a knee scope he underwent
this offseason.

West Indies

The West Indies
Cricket selection panel has named its squad for the upcoming T20 International
matches against India. The first two T20Is of the India series will be on Aug.
3rd and 4th at Lauderhill, Florida while the final match will be on August 6th
in Guyana.

Veterans Sunil
Narine and Kieron Pollard have been recalled to the squad while wicket-keeper
batsman Anthony Bramble gets a maiden call-up.
